Seated Barbell Press

The seated barbell press allows heavier loading than the standing version as the lower body stability demand is removed. The seated position also reduces lower back strain for those with back issues.

Form Cues

  • ✓ Keep back against the pad — do not arch away from it.
  • ✓ Press straight up, not forward.

Common Mistakes

  • ✗ Leaning the torso back — this is the same problem as standing OHP.
  • ✗ Elbows flaring too wide.
💡 Professor Splits Says:

Progressive overload is the engine of muscle growth. Track your weights and aim to add small increments weekly. For Seated Barbell Press, this means gradually increasing load, volume (sets × reps), or decreasing rest periods over time.
